There are several birds which are very common in our locality.

ऐसे कई पक्षी हैं, जो हमारे इलाके में बहुत आम हैं।

The house sparrow is one of them. Sparrows are found in plenty in our locality. They like to live with people. So they make themselves quite at home in houses.

घरेलू गौरैया उनमें से एक है। हमारे इलाके में गौरैया बहुतायत में पाई जाती है। इन्हें लोगों के साथ रहना पसंद है। इसलिए वे घरों में खुद को काफी सहज महसूस करते हैं।

Sparrows build their nests wherever they can - on window- sills, the top of doors and almirahs, and in nooks and corners. Their nests can be found in holes and niches in walls and on roofs and in the most unlikely places, even inside the folds of hanging curtains! Their chirping pleases us, but at times they are also a nuisance.

गौरैया जहाँ भी संभव हो अपना घोंसला बनाती हैं जैसे की - खिड़कियों पर, दरवाज़ों और अलमारियों के ऊपर, और कोनों में।  उनके घोंसले दीवारों के छिद्रों और आलों में, छतों पर और सबसे असंभावित स्थानों पर, यहाँ तक कि लटकते पर्दों की तहों के अंदर भी पाए जा सकते हैं!  उनकी चहचहाहट हमें खुश तो करती है, लेकिन कभी-कभी परेशानी का सबक भी बन जाती है।

Sparrows are brown in colour, with white and black mingled together on the back and sides; they also have a whitish front. The male sparrow has a black patch on his throat.

गौरैया का रंग भूरा होता है, पीठ और किनारों पर सफेद और काले रंग एक साथ मिले होते हैं, उनके पास एक सफ़ेद अग्रभाग भी है। नर गौरैया के गले पर एक काला धब्बा होता है।

Sparrows eat grain, insects, and the tender shoots of plants. They are also fond of cooked food.

गौरैया अनाज, कीड़े-मकौड़े और पौधों की कोमल टहनियाँ खाती है।इन्हें पका हुआ खाना भी बहुत पसंद है।

Sparrows love company. They are always found in pairs. We can see several pairs at a time.

गौरैया को साथ पसंद है। ये हमेशा जोड़े में पाए जाते हैं। हम एक समय में कई जोड़े देख सकते हैं।

The mother bird lays three or four eggs, which are pale greenish white. Sparrows are known to raise several families in a year.

मादा गौरैया पक्षी तीन या चार अंडे देती है जो हल्के हरे-सफेद रंग के होते हैं। गौरैया एक वर्ष में कई परिवारों का पालन-पोषण करने के लिए जानी जाती है।

I love watching sparrows build their tiny nests in safe corners of our house. Their innocent look and lively chirping always bring joy to my mind.
