The Old Man And His Grandson Solutions in Hindi : - 

There was an old man. His eyes had become dim, he could not hear properly and his knees trembled. When he sat at the table, he had difficulty in holding the spoon.

वहाँ एक बूढ़ा आदमी था. उसकी आँखें धुंधली हो गई थीं, उसे ठीक से सुनाई नहीं देता था और उसके घुटने कांपने लगे थे। जब वह मेज पर बैठे तो उन्हें चम्मच पकड़ने में दिक्कत होने लगी।

He spilled the soup on the table cloth or let it run out of his mouth. His son and daughter-in- law were disgusted at this. They made the old man sit in the corner behind the stove in the kitchen. 

उसने सूप को मेज़पोश पर गिरा दिया या अपने मुँह से बाहर निकाल दिया। यह बात उनके बेटे और बहू को नागवार गुजरी। उन्होंने बूढ़े आदमी को रसोई में चूल्हे के पीछे कोने में बैठा दिया।

They gave him his food in an earthenware bowl, and not even enough of it. The old man used to look at the table with his eyes full of tears. Once, his trembling hands could not hold the bowl, and it fell to the ground and broke. 

उन्होंने उसे मिट्टी के बर्तन में खाना दिया, और वह भी पर्याप्त नहीं था। बूढ़ा आदमी आँसुओं भरी आँखों से मेज़ की ओर देखता रहता था। एक बार तो उसके काँपते हाथ कटोरे को पकड़ न सके और वह ज़मीन पर गिरकर टूट गया।

His son and daughter-in-law scolded him, but he said nothing and only sighed. Then they bought him a cheap wooden bowl, out of which he had to eat.

उनके बेटे और बहू ने उन्हें डांटा, लेकिन उन्होंने कुछ नहीं कहा और केवल आह भरते रहे। फिर उन्होंने उसके लिए एक सस्ता लकड़ी का कटोरा खरीदा, जिसमें से उसे खाना था।

One day, the young man and his wife were sitting in their drawing room. Suddenly, their little son, who was four years old, began to gather some pieces of wood. Then he started arranging them on the floor. 

एक दिन, युवक और उसकी पत्नी अपने ड्राइंग रूम में बैठे थे। अचानक, उनका छोटा बेटा, जो चार साल का था, लकड़ी के कुछ टुकड़े इकट्ठा करने लगा। फिर उसने उन्हें फर्श पर व्यवस्थित करना शुरू कर दिया।

"What are you doing there?" asked the father "I am making a little bowl," answered the child, "for father and mother to eat from when I am big."

"आप वहां किस चीज़ में व्यस्त हैं?" पिता से पूछा, "मैं एक छोटी कटोरी बना रहा हूँ," बच्चे ने उत्तर दिया, "जब मैं बड़ा हो जाऊँगा तब से पिता और माँ के लिए खाना खाऊँगा।"

The man and his wife looked at each other for a while and began to cry. They realised how they have been ill-treating their father and setting a wrong example before their son. Realizing this, they took the grandfather to the table. 

वह आदमी और उसकी पत्नी कुछ देर तक एक-दूसरे को देखते रहे और रोने लगे। उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि कैसे वे अपने पिता के साथ बुरा व्यवहार कर रहे हैं और अपने बेटे के सामने गलत उदाहरण पेश कर रहे हैं। यह समझकर वे दादाजी को मेज के पास ले गये।

From that day, they always let him eat with them, and said nothing even if he spilled food on himself or on the table.

उस दिन से, वे हमेशा उसे अपने साथ खाना खाने देते थे, और कुछ नहीं कहते थे, भले ही वह खुद पर या मेज पर खाना गिरा दे।

Q. 1. How was the old man treated by his children ? Discuss.

Answer : - The old man was ill-treated by his children. The old man trembled. Soup used to fell down from his mouth on the table-cloth and on his clothes. His son and daughter-in-law used to become angry at this. They made him sit in a comer behind the stove in the kitchen. His children should not have done this.

Q. 2. Which action of the child changed the behaviour of his parents towards his grandfather ?

Answer : - The parents saw their four years child arranging some pieces of wood. They asked the child what he was doing. The child said that he was making little bowls for them. When he will become young, he will give the wood bowls to his parents to eat. Hearing his words, his parents realized their mistakes. Afterwards their behaviour changed towards the child's grandfather.

Q. 3. How did the old man feel at the treatment that he got from his son and daughter-in-law ? 

Answer : - The old man became very sad from the ill-treatment he got from his son and daughter-in-law. He used to sigh. His eyes used to fill with tears now and then.

Q. 4. Where was the old man forced to eat his meals ? Do you think he found it easy to accept the change imposed on him ?

Answer : - The old man was forced to cat his meals in a corner behind the stove in the kitchen. It was not easy (आसान) to accept (स्वीकार करना) the change (परिवर्तन) imposed on him. He felt insulted. He used to sigh and weep.

Read the following sentences carefully : -

You will notice that the words a, an and the in the above sentences determine or modify something. They also show the types of reference regarding the nouns used after them. We call these words articles.

There are two types of articles : indefinite 'a and 'an' or definite the'. 'The' is used to refer to specific or particular nouns: 'a'/'an' is used to modify non-specific or non-particular nouns.

For example, if we say, "Let's read the book," we mean specific book. If we say, "Let's read a book", we mean any book rather than a specific book.

'The' is used to refer to a specific or particular member of a group. For example, "I just saw the most popular movie of the year." There are many movies, but only one particular movie is the most popular. Therefore, we use the. .

"A/an' is used to refer to a non-specific or non-particular member of the group. For example, "Anwesha would like to see a movie." Here, we're not talking about a specific movie. We're talking about any movie. There are many movies and Anwesha wants to see any movie. She doesn't have a specific one in mind. We use a when the noun we are referring to begins with a consonant sound, for example, "a book", "a fan", and "a picture".

We use an when the noun we are referring to begins with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u). Remember that the pronunciation changes this rule. It's the sound that matters, not the spelling. For example, "an object", "an elephant", and "an ant". But a university" (we say "university" with a "y" sound at the beginning) and "an hour" (we say "hour" with a silent h and this word as "our").

The first time we speak of something we use "a or an", the next time we repeat that object, we use "the"; e.g.

I live in a house. The house is quite old and has four bedrooms.

I ate in a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant was very good.

The definite article "the" is used before singular and plural nouns when the noun is specific or particular. "The" signals that the noun is definite, that it refers to a particular member of a group. 

"The dog that bit me and ran away." (Here, we're talking about a specific dog, the dog that bit me.

How should young persons treat the old ? 

Answer : -  Raj : Young persons should treat their old parents respectfully. They should treat them properly.

Pritam : You're right. It is our parents who brought us to this world. We should always be obliged to them for this. 

Nagesh : Our parents have taken a lot of pain in bringing us up. We should give them love and respect (आदर) in their old age in return.

Write a paragraph on "Benefits of living with grandparents'.

                  " Benefits of living with grandparents "

   Benefits of living with grand-parents are many. They Shower their love on us without any expectation or demand. They tell us interesting stories. They guide us. They have rich eriences of life. Whenever we are in trouble (समस्या में) they guide us with a proper (उचित) solution (समाधान), Their presence are strength for us. They are great assets for us. We should always respect them and help them in their needs.

Why do old people go and stay there? What sorts of services are provided in these homes ?

There are many senior citizens or old persons in our society who don't have roof over their heads. Old Age Homes are for them. Old Age homes are built either by government or by NGOs. Old age homes give protection to old people. Old persons come to live in these houses. Here, if they can work, they are provided some easy works too. Many young persons misbehave with their old parents. They throw them out of their house. In such cases the old age homes prove to be a boon for the unsheltered old persons. They take shelter in old age homes and save their lives. In old age homes the elderly persons are provided with free shelter and food.
