Chapter 2 Solutions English to Hindi : - 

Sham was a rich young man. When his father passed away early, he became the owner of all his father had. 

शाम एक अमीर युवक था। जब उसके पिता का जल्दी निधन हो गया, तो वह अपने पिता की सारी संपत्ति का मालिक बन गया।

He now started living a luxurious life. He ate rich food and lay in bed all day. As a result, he did not find any food tasty. 

वह अब विलासितापूर्ण जीवन जीने लगा। वह गरिष्ठ भोजन खाता था और पूरे दिन बिस्तर पर पड़ा रहता था। नतीजा यह हुआ कि उन्हें कोई भी खाना स्वादिष्ट नहीं लगा।

Months passed. One day, inspite of laziness, he agreed to take part in a hunt. He was not used to riding fast so he found himself lagging behind other friends. He got lost and wandered away in the woods. 

महीने बीत गए। एक दिन, आलस्य के बावजूद, वह शिकार में भाग लेने के लिए तैयार हो गया। उसे तेज गाड़ी चलाने की आदत नहीं थी इसलिए वह खुद को अन्य दोस्तों से पिछड़ता हुआ पाता था। वह भटक गया और जंगल में भटक गया।

Six to seven hours passed with him roaming around like this. He felt tired and hungry. Suddenly he saw a peasant's Hut. He rode up to it and asked for a little food.

ऐसे ही घूमते-घूमते उसे छह-सात घंटे बीत गये। उसे थकान और भूख महसूस हुई। अचानक उसकी नजर एक किसान की झोपड़ी पर पड़ी। वह उसके पास गया और थोड़ा सा भोजन माँगा।

"I am poor man. I have only roti and daal, sir" said the peasant "but you are most welcome to have these."

"मैं गरीब आदमी हूं। मेरे पास केवल रोटी और दाल है, श्रीमान" किसान ने कहा, "लेकिन इन्हें खाने के लिए आपका स्वागत है।"

The young man was very hungry and he really loved the food. He liked it more than all the rich food he had been eating earlier. 

युवक बहुत भूखा था और उसे भोजन बहुत पसंद आया। उसे यह पहले से खाए गए सभी गरिष्ठ भोजनों से अधिक पसंद आया।

He thanked the peasant who also gave him directions back to his home. He got back to return home and rested.

उसने उस किसान को धन्यवाद दिया जिसने उसे उसके घर वापस जाने का रास्ता भी बताया। वह घर लौट आया और आराम करने लगा।

He went back to his rich food and lazy ways. The food was again tasteless. He wondered why the simple dal roti tasted so nice.

वह अपने गरिष्ठ भोजन और आलसी तरीकों पर वापस चला गया। खाना फिर बेस्वाद था. उसे आश्चर्य हुआ कि साधारण दाल रोटी का स्वाद इतना अच्छा क्यों है।

Q 3. Who helped Sham when he lost his way? How?

Ans. A peasant helped Sham when he lost his way. The peasant gave him food and also directions back to his home.

Q 4. What made the food tasty or tasteless for Sham. Give reasons for your answer.

Ans. Toil of a man makes his food tasty and lack of toil makes the food tasteless. Toil creates desire of food in the physique of a man. So, the food becomes tasty. Without toil, a person lacks his need for food. So, food becomes tasteless.

D.1. Conjunctions

He ate rich food and lay in bed all day.

We can break this sentence into two sentences.

1. He ate rich food.

2. He lay in bed all day.

We use ‘and’ to join two or more words or group of words. We also use ‘but’, ‘when’, ‘because’ and ‘or’ to join two or more words or group of words.

Q. Now break the following sentences into two sentences as shown in the example above.

2. I have only roti and dal, sir.

3. He want back to his rich food and lazy ways.

Prasoon    : I wake up at 6:00 in the morning.

Myself       : I wake up before the sunrise everyday in the morning.

Prasoon    : It is very difficult to rise so early.

Myself       : No, no. Is very easy. I also go to bed early in the night. So, it is not difficult to arise early in the morning. Early to bed and early to rise is the gold rule of living. After that I walk for some time and then start another work of the house.

E.1.2. Write 6 sentences about the food you like to eat and why you like that food.
